About Liant
Liant Software Corporation is a leading provider of software tools for developing business information systems and solutions.

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUELiant's Mission
Liant is committed to leveraging its technology and the knowledge and talents of its people to deliver and support high-quality software tools that facilitate the development and operation of business information systems. By meeting this commitment, Liant will enable its customers to rapidly and efficiently realize the benefits of modern computer architectures.

As a leading provider of business application development tools for almost two decades, Liant is uniquely qualified to develop and deliver products that help transform legacy business applications and processes into modern and robust distributed application software systems.

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUEThe Challenge
As we enter the sixth decade of the computer age, almost every business has a data processing legacy consisting of computer systems and application programs whose origins span periods from five to thirty or more years. Conversely, almost every one of these companies has built, or is building, new application systems using technology that is maturing on an almost daily basis. These companies are planning and attempting to develop connections between these new applications and customers, suppliers, and employees using both the companies' internal networks and the worldwide Internet.

Considering the number of monolithic, host-based, mission-critical applications that form the information and automation foundation of major corporations, billions of lines of this legacy source code must be either re-engineered or integrated into new applications. Total re-engineering is impractical for most companies, due to the cost, risk, and time it takes to duplicate the functions of existing systems. Even if application programming productivity were to be increased dramatically, the complete replacement of existing applications would take most businesses many years and require a substantial investment in excess of normal operating costs.

Further complicating this situation, many early adopters of modern client/server development tools have hit unexpected obstacles of application performance and scalability. Often these new tools alone have proven to fall short of supporting the development of mission-critical business information systems.   It is to the solutions to these problems that Liant dedicates its efforts.

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUEJoining the Web
For the past decade the World Wide Web has been changing the landscape of computing.  In 2006, it is clear that the Web is fast becoming the ultimate platform for all business applications, both on the Internet and inside the company.  Liant is a pioneer in developing and marketing the tools that developers need to bring their legacy applications into this exciting new world.  With its Xcentrisity line of web-based development and deployment solutions, Liant provides the best-in-class solution to the problem of legacy rehosting and retargeting for the future.  Application solutions developed using Xcentrisity tools can enjoy a long and profitable lifetime.

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUEMasters of the Language
Since the 1970's, Liant (and its predecessor, Ryan McFarland Corporation) has developed and marketed RM/COBOL, arguably the most widely used COBOL application development system in the world. RM/COBOL's compiler is one of the first COBOL compilers certified under the 1974 and 1985 ANSI standards for that language. Tens of thousands of companies have used it to produce critical business applications that can operate, without source or object code changes, on computer systems ranging from desktop PC's to UNIX systems to IBM mainframes. Installed and running on millions of computer systems worldwide, RM/COBOL continues to set the standard for application and data portability, open systems language features and extensions, and application platform reliability. Just as RM/COBOL has in the past helped enable the transition of business applications from mainframes and minicomputers to open systems, today it is playing a key role in enabling the transition to the distributed, component-based systems of the future.

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUEOpen Access to Legacy Information
In today's business world, computer end users must have timely access to all the business information stored throughout an organization. Liant's Relativity data access products allow developers to "publish" data locked inside legacy applications. Using patented software technology, Relativity's server-based engine supports industry standards for open data access, allowing virtually any desktop application to access corporate information securely, transparently, and directly. End users can access application data from workstation-based decision support tools such as Microsoft Excel and Access, and developers can use tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio and Sybase PowerBuilder to extend and replace legacy functions without total replacement of the data processing infrastructure

ARROW_RIGHT_BLUEDelivering Tools That Work
Building on its foundation as a leader in providing tools and technologies for software developers, Liant is ready to assist its customers across the next threshold of technology. With an emphasis on meeting customer needs and minimizing future customer problems, Liant and its products address application development and deployment issues from the business software developer's perspective and deliver solutions based on a profound understanding of the application development process.
